What do I use Wispr Flow for?

Talking instead of typing.

Dictation on my PC gets clunky. Wispr Flow doesn’t.

I hit the keyboard shortcut, talk, and the words land in whatever box I was already in. Claude, an email, a form. It works out where I’m typing without being told.

You can also genuinely whisper and it catches everything, which matters if you’re working somewhere public and would rather not narrate your business to the room.

Which feature would I miss most?

That it knows where I’m typing.

Shortcut, talk, done. It goes straight into the field my cursor is already sitting in.

Sounds small. It’s the difference between dictating and dictating-then-copying-then-pasting, which is enough friction that I’d stop bothering.

Who is Wispr Flow for, and who should skip it?

Anyone whose computer mic is letting them down.

If you talk faster than you type, or you need to dictate quietly, this is the one.

Skip it if you don’t have the problem. Granola covers a lot of the same ground, and if your own machine’s dictation is fine, you don’t need another tool.

The difference between the two is worth knowing though. Granola hands me a tidied-up version of what I said. Wispr Flow hands me what I actually said. There’s often gold in the rambling, and cleaned-up notes throw it out.

What do I wish I had known about Wispr Flow on day one?

It’s fussier on an iPhone.

There are extra permission hoops on iOS. It asks for microphone access again even when I’ve already granted it. Android doesn’t do this as far as I can tell.

So I barely use it on my phone. It lives on my PC, which is where I wanted it anyway.

How does Wispr Flow fit with my other tools?

It just fills a gap.

It isn’t doing any of the thinking. It sits between my mouth and whatever tool is doing the actual work, for the times my PC’s own microphone handling isn’t up to it.

Would I pay for Wispr Flow?

No. Haven’t needed to.

The free plan gives you 2,000 words a week on desktop and I have never run through it. If you’re dictating all day you might; I’m not, so I don’t.

Worth saying that this isn’t a knock on it. I’d pay if I hit the ceiling. I just never have.
